Biography
Anthony David McPartlin was born on November 18, 1975 in Newcastle Upon Tyne. His mother Christine is a beautician and his father Raymond a publican. He grew up in a council house on the Fenham estate in his beloved Newcastle. He was raised by his mother, as his parents split up while he was quite young. He has a younger sister named Sarah and a half-sister Emma, from his father's second marriage.
Ant attended Wingrove Junior school and later the Rutherford School, a local comprehensive. He was an average student achieving mostly Bs and Cs at GCSE and quitting A levels after a few months to pursue a career in television.
Ant was always interested in performing and wished to be famous from a very early age. He had a small role on the children's show Why Don't You and appeared a some local advertisements. He was encouraged by family and teachers to audition for Byker Grove, a Newcastle based teen drama, but was reticent to do so after having the mick taken by his peers.
He did attend the audition (basically being dragged by his mam) and was originally cast in a much smaller role of a paraplegic boy, before being recast as PJ the DJ. It was on Byker Grove where he met Dec, who was to become his lifelong friend and partner.
